Jeff Smith

Vice President, Facilities Infrastructure, Samsung Austin Semiconductor

Biography

In his role as Vice President at SAS, Jeff is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Facilities management for the site.  This includes construction, line planning, electrical, water/wastewater, gas & chemical supply operations, fab environment control, maintenance and engineering.

Jeff joined SAS in 1997 as a process engineer in CVD.  He continued to grow his leadership within the company while serving in many roles such as senior director of FOM & Electrical, senior director of Clean/CMP engineering, director of CVD and Metals engineering, senior manager of CVD engineering, and manager of Diffusion engineering. 

Jeff has a passion for improving the quality and reliability of the utilities and services required that fuel leading edge semiconductor fabs.   He and his team are focused on reducing energy requirements, improving in-situ monitoring and developing predictive failure analysis techniques for fab facilities equipment and distribution systems.

Jeff has developed strong working relationships with the City of Austin, City of Taylor, Travis County, Williamson County and State government officials.  He also represents Samsung as an Executive Committee member on the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of Manufacturers (TAM) and has done so since 2019.

Jeff has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
